To Prepare and Submit Liquid Paraffin Emulsion I.P.

Requirements:

• Liquid Paraffin.            ---------- 500ml
• Indian Gum (powder) ---------- 125 gm
• Tragacanth (powder)  ---------- 5 gm
• Sodium Benzoate.          -------- 5 gm
• Vanillin.                           -------- 0.5gm
• Glycerin.                        ------- 125ml
• Chloroform.               -------- 2.5 ml
• Purified water, qs produce ------ 1000ml

Procedure:

• Triturate the liquid paraffin and the chloroform with the indian gum, tragacanth and vanilline.
• Add one quantity 250ml of purified water and triturate until a creamy emulsion is formed.
• Add glycerine and the sodium benzoate dissolved in 50 ml of purified water.
• Add sufficient purified water to produce 1000ml and mix well.
