Aim:
To perform the assay of Ibuprofen as per Indian Pharmacopeia.
Reference:
Indian Pharmacopoeia 2010, Gov. of India, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Delhi, India pp-1480.
Requirements:
Chemical: ibuprofen,ethanol,NaOH, Phenolphthalein.
Glassware: beaker, burette, pipette, funnel, conical flask.
Theory:
Ibuprofen is a medication of nonsteriodal anti-infflammatory drug class. It is used for treating pain, fever, and inflammation.
IUPAC Name:
(RS)-2-(4- isobutylphenyl) propionic acid
Chemical formula :
C13H18O2
Molar Mass: 206.29 g/mol
Catagory:
Anti- inflammatory, Analgesic
Dose: 600mg-1.2gm daily in divided dose.
Procedure:
- Weight accurately 0.4 g of Ibuprofen.
- Dissolve it in 100 ml of ethanol (95%)
- And titrate with 0.1M NaOH using 0.2ml of phenolphthalein solution as indicator.
- Also carry out blank titration.
- 1ml of 0.1M NaOH is equivalent to 0.02063 of C13H18O2 (Ibuprofen).
Result:
The assay of Ibuprofen was successfully perfomed.
